Kort antwoord

Grote kattenrassen van 5 kilo of meer hebben een automatische kattenbak nodig die groter is dan de standaard modellen.

  • ✓Rule of thumb: tray = minimum 1.5x the cat body length

You have deliberately chosen a large cat breed. The Maine Coon, the Ragdoll, the Norwegian Forest Cat or perhaps the British Shorthair or the Siberian cat. Magnificent animals. But that scale has consequences for everything around them, including the automatic litter tray you choose.

Which cat breeds really grow large?

As a general rule: a cat weighing 5 kg or more needs a large litter tray. These are the breeds for which you always need an XXL automatic litter tray:

Maine Coon: 6-9 kg

The largest domesticated cat breed. Males up to 9 kg, sometimes more. Body length up to 75 cm. Keeps growing until year 3-5.

Ragdoll: 5-8 kg

Second largest breed, known for calm character. Males up to 8 kg. Keeps growing until year 3-4.

Norwegian Forest Cat: 5-7 kg

Robust, active breed with thick double coat. Males 5-7 kg. Body length 45-65 cm.

British Shorthair: 4-7 kg

Sturdy, compact build. Males 5-7 kg.

Siberian Cat: 5-8 kg

One of the oldest cat breeds. Thick coat, large frame. Males up to 8 kg.

Why a standard automatic litter tray doesn't work

Standard automatic litter trays are designed for cats weighing 3-5 kg with a body length of approximately 40-50 cm. For large breeds there are three critical problems:

Problem 1: Too little space

A large cat cannot fully turn around in a tray that is too small.

Problem 2: Incorrect sensor calibration

The weight sensor in many models is set for cats up to 5-6 kg. A Maine Coon male of 8 kg triggers the sensor incorrectly.

Problem 3: Waste drawer too small

A large cat produces more urine and faeces. A standard waste drawer fills up in two to three days with a large cat.

Our recommendation: Prime AnimalZ automatic litter tray XXL

The Prime AnimalZ automatic litter tray XXL is the only automatic litter tray in our range suitable for all the breeds mentioned above. The weight sensor works accurately for cats from 2 to 12 kg.
