How do you use a steam brush on your cat or dog?

Slide image

Short answer

Fill the reservoir with clean water without additives. Switch the brush on and let the fine water mist start. Then brush calmly in the direction of hair growth, using little pressure. With the S900A, press the self-cleaning button afterwards to remove the collected hair from the brush head more easily.

A steam brush combines brushing with a fine water mist. At Prime AnimalZ, we use the term steam brush as the product name. While using the S900A, a fine water mist is released that lightly moistens the coat and can help loosen small tangles more easily while brushing.

How to use a steam brush step by step

1. Fill the reservoir with clean water

Use clean water without oil, perfume, vinegar, conditioner or other additives. Fill the reservoir according to the product instructions and close it properly.

2. Let your pet get used to it first

Let your cat or dog look at and sniff the brush first. Start calmly and avoid applying a lot of pressure right away. Especially with a pet that isn't used to an electric brush yet, a short first session helps make it familiar.

3. Start the fine water mist

Switch the brush on and let the water mist start before you begin. The coat doesn't need to get wet. A light mist while brushing is enough.

4. Brush in the direction of hair growth

Make calm movements in the direction the coat grows. Use little pressure and work in small sections rather than rushing through the whole coat. The brush pins help collect loose hair from the coat.

5. Handle small tangles carefully

The fine water mist can help loosen small tangles more easily. Don't pull hard on a tangle and don't force the brush through a firm or painful mat. For large or tightly stuck mats, professional help is the wiser choice.

6. Remove the collected hair

With the S900A, press the self-cleaning button after brushing. The collected hair comes off the brush head and is then easier to remove.

What should you pay attention to while brushing?

  • Brush calmly and use little pressure.
  • Avoid the eyes, nose, ears and irritated or damaged skin.
  • Stop when your pet clearly shows discomfort.
  • Don't force the brush through large or firm mats.
  • Only use clean water without additives.

How often should you use a steam brush?

That varies per pet and coat. A short coat often needs less maintenance than a long or dense coat. Mainly look at the amount of loose hair, whether small tangles are forming and how your pet responds to brushing.

Using the S800A or S900A?

The S800A is the more compact choice for simple coat care. The S900A adds stainless steel brush pins with rounded comfort tips and a self-cleaning button. Both models are designed for grooming the coats of cats and dogs.
