The hero of fresh food
Why freshness bags make the difference 🌿
The moment a bag of dry food is opened, the clock starts ticking. Oxygen turns the fats rancid, moisture in the air softens the kibble and the aroma fades. A freshness bag with desiccant keeps air and moisture out, so every portion tastes and smells as fresh as the day you opened the bag.
⏳
Read: the complete guide to automatic feeders →
In short
1 freshness bag = approx. 1 month of airtight freshness. After that, the desiccant stops working — that's why you'll want a small supply at home.
😕
Without freshness bag
- ✕Kibble turns soft and stale
- ✕Aroma fades — your pet eats less
- ✕Fats turn rancid
- ✕Thrown out sooner = waste
😻
With freshness bag
- ✓Crunchy down to the last piece
- ✓Full aroma — your pet stays keen
- ✓Nutritional value is preserved
- ✓Less waste = lower costs

Old-school feeding vs. smart feeding.
Feeding by hand works fine — until you're running late, away from home, or the food has gone stale. Here's what the difference looks like.
| Feeding by hand | With Prime AnimalZ | |
|---|---|---|
| Meals on time while you're away | — | Automatic, up to 10× a day |
| Portions | By eye, often too much | Accurate to the gram |
| Keeping food fresh | Open bag in the cupboard | Airtight + freshness bag |
| Seeing if your pet really eats | — | HD camera + app |
| Early-morning meowing | You get up | The feeder takes care of it |
| Weekend away | Pet sitter or double filling | Just keeps running |
| Two pets or two types of food | Filling two bowls | 2-in-1 double, automatic |
| Food that tastes fresh | Up to approx. 2 weeks after opening | Approx. 1 month per freshness bag |

Frequently asked questions
Everything you want to know about this feeder
Still unsure? Below are the questions we get asked most. Can't find yours? Just message us.
How does an automatic feeder work?
An automatic feeder dispenses the right portion of dry food at preset times. In the Prime AnimalZ app you set how many grams your pet gets per meal. Meanwhile, freshness bags keep the kibble crunchy and tasty. Read our complete buying guide.
Which type of dry food fits in the feeder?
The feeder works with dry food with a kibble size of 2–15 mm. That covers almost all common cat and dog foods. Kibble that is too large or sticky doesn't work well with the dispenser mechanism.
What happens during a power cut?
The built-in battery backup automatically takes over as soon as the power goes out. Your pet gets its meal on time, even during longer outages. On standby, the battery lasts several weeks. Read what you need to know about power cuts.
What exactly does a freshness bag do?
A freshness bag absorbs air and moisture in the storage compartment, keeping the dry food airtight and fresh for approx. 1 month. It protects aroma, crunchiness and nutritional value. One bag lasts a month — for a longer supply, order a six-month or annual pack.
How do I connect the feeder to the app?
Download the free Prime AnimalZ app (iOS and Android) and create an account. The feeder works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi. Follow the step-by-step setup in the app — it takes about 5 minutes. View the full installation guide.
Can I set multiple meals per day?
Yes. In the app you can set up to 15 meals per day and up to 99 portions per meal. Ideal for pets that get several small meals. Calculate the right daily portion here.
Is the feeder suitable for both cats and dogs?
Yes. All Prime AnimalZ feeders work for cats as well as small and medium-sized dogs. For large dogs, we recommend the models with a larger capacity (6L or 7L). Calculate the portion for dogs by weight here.
What if the feeder shows an error message?
Most notifications can be resolved in the app itself. In case of a technical fault, our customer service team is ready to help via WhatsApp or the contact page, usually replying within 1 working day.
