How quickly is the litter box ready to use?

Which cat litter works best?
The litter box works best with fine-grained clumping cat litter: tofu, bentonite or silica litter all work well. Coarse-grained or non-clumping litter doesn't work well with the cleaning mechanism.
Will my cat get used to the automatic litter box?
